Which pigeon corn do I need?
- Breeding and weaning – higher-protein mixes for pairs feeding youngsters, such as Versele-Laga Traditional Breeding Subliem, Traditional Premium Junior UK Breed & Wean, Plus Start, Bucktons Breed & Wean and Countrywide Breed & Wean.
- Young birds – smaller-grain mixes, often without maize, for squeakers and youngsters, such as Plus Junior, Johnston & Jeff Squeaker and Young Bird No Maize, and Countrywide Super Young Bird No Maize.
- Racing and widowhood – energy-rich mixes for the race season, such as Plus Superstar, Plus Champion UK, Plus Energy UK, Traditional Premium Super Widowhood, Super Winner and Mariman Variamax Widowhood.
- Depurative – light, lower-protein mixes often fed for the first days after a race to help birds recover, such as Plus Depure, Traditional Depurative, Mariman Standard Depurative and Johnston & Jeff Euro Depurative.
- Moulting and winter – mixes for the moult and the off season, such as Traditional Moulting Extra Subliem, Plus Winter and 4 Seasons mixes from Versele-Laga Classic and Mariman.
- Show and fancy pigeons – Versele-Laga Show Standard mixes with or without maize, plus Bavarian Pearls and Kings Pearls.
- All-rounders – one mix for most of the year, such as Bucktons Best All Round, Countrywide All Rounder and Johnston & Jeff All Rounder.
What to feed alongside the corn

Pigeon corn FAQs
How long does a 20kg sack last? As a rough guide, a pigeon eats around 30–40g of corn a day, so a 20kg sack feeds about 20 birds for a month. It depends on the season, the weather and how hard the birds are working.
How should I store pigeon corn? Keep sacks off the floor in a cool, dry, rodent-proof place, and use the oldest sack first.
Can I mix two different mixtures? Yes, many fanciers blend a racing mix with a depurative or breeding mix to adjust protein and energy through the week.
